Fans on Twitter reacted after defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thumped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The tournament opener took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (22nd March).

RCB won the toss and opted to bat first. They were off the flying start as skipper Faf du Plessis (35) and Virat Kohli (21) added 41 runs for the opening partnership. But the opening wicket triggered the collapse for them as they lost wickets in clusters. 

RCB were left tottering at 78/5 and it was then when Anuj Rawat (48) and Dinesh Karthik (38) joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble. They added 95 runs and powered their team to a total of 173 runs. For CSK, Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 4/29. 

During the chase, CSK were off to a valiant start with the bat. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) played solid shots at the start and put RCB under pressure right from the start. They added 38 runs together. 

After that, Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Daryl Mitchell (22) took charge and oozed their class with the bat. The duo batted aggressively but they both lost their wickets at crucial junctures. RCB made a slight comeback in the match as they reduced CSK to 110/4. 

But it was Shivam Dube (34*) and Ravindra Jadeja (25*) who held the fort for the team and ensured that CSK chased the target comfortably. They were tested a lot in the start by pacers but they negotiated the tricky phase well. They added an unbeaten 65 runs and made a mockery of the RCB bowling lineup. Chennai Super Kings chased the target with 6 wickets in hand and started off the tournament on high.
