The 33-year-old Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who solely plays as a batter these days for the franchise, bagged yet another failure in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 when he was cleaned up by Yuzvendra Chahal in the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The 24th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) was played between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday, April 10 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Vijay Shankar headed into the clash against the Sanju Samson-led side after registering scores of 6, 12, 14, 8, and 17 in the previous matches. He was backed by the Ashish Nehra-led management to deliver after failing in 5 consecutive matches, but the batter didn’t repay the faith of his team management.
During the run-chase, Vijay Shankar scored just 16 runs off 10 balls, before walking back to the hut. His innings was studded with 3 boundaries. He was dismissed by the star Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on the last ball of the 14th over.
Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a 93.3kph slider on middle and off stump. Shankar attempted a sweep through mid-wicket and missed the ball completely to see his stumps getting rattled.

Speaking after the match, Rashid Khan, who won the Player of the Match award, said that he was more happy about the victory of the team than his own performance. He also expressed delight over the way he bowled against RR. Rashid Khan elaborated:
“Winning the game is more pleasing for me. Happy that I landed the ball where I wanted today and that gave me energy with the bat as well maybe. I haven’t bowled much in the last 3-4 months after the surgery and I just lost a bit of grip on the ball and I had a good session after the last game and it really helped me to get back to my best. I really enjoyed my bowling today. It was just a matter of hitting 3-4 sixes and you need to stay positive.”
