The 12th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 took place between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians where the Capitals managed to register an emphatic victory by 29 runs. This also marked the commencement of the Delhi-leg of the tournament, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Jemimah Rodrigues, Meg Lanning powers Delhi Capitals to a formidable total

Delhi Capitals put up an impressive total of 192/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Meg Lanning showcased her class with a superb innings, scoring 53 runs off 38 deliveries, which included six boundaries and two towering sixes. Her composed approach and ability to accelerate the innings were crucial in setting up a formidable total for her team.

On the other hand, Jemimah Rodrigues played a scintillating knock, smashing 69 runs off just 33 balls, adorned with eight fours and three sixes. Her aggressive batting prowess electrified the atmosphere, providing the much-needed momentum to Delhi Capitals’ innings. Further, Shafali Verma contributed a quickfire 28 off 12 balls as well.

In response, Mumbai Indians fought hard but fell short, managing to score 163/8 in their 20 overs. Amanjot Kaur was the top scorer for Mumbai Indians Women with a valiant 42 off 27 balls, supported by contributions from Hayley Matthews (29 off 17) and Sajeevan Sajana (24 off 14).

Delhi Capitals’ bowlers put up a commendable performance, with Jess Jonassen leading the pack with figures of 3 wickets for 21 runs in her 4 overs. Marizanne Kapp also chipped in with 2 wickets for 37 runs in her spell. In the end, Delhi Capitals emerged victorious by 29 runs, thanks to their strong batting performance and disciplined bowling effort.
