The fifteenth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 between UP Warriorz (UPW) and Delhi Capitals (DC) turned out to be a sensational showdown and treated cricket enthusiasts to a breathtaking display of talent. The clash that took place at the New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley stadium between the two formidable sides saw UP Warriorz emerge victorious in a nail-biting encounter, triumphing by just one run.
UP Warriorz innings: Deepti Sharma’s fight
Winning the toss and opting to bat, UP Warriorz set the stage for a gripping contest. Their innings concluded with a total of 138/8 after 20 overs, thanks to some impressive contributions and a standout performance from all-rounder Deepti Sharma. The all-rounder’s brilliant innings of 59 runs off 48 balls, supported by Alyssa Healy‘s 29 runs, anchored the innings. However, no other batter managed to cross the 20-run mark, with Titas Sadhu and Radha Yadav taking two wickets each for Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals’ Response: Meg Lanning’s sensational fifty in vain
Chasing a target of 139, Delhi Capitals fought valiantly but fell just short, finishing at 137 in 19.5 overs. The highlight of their innings was Meg Lanning‘s outstanding performance, scoring 60 runs off 46 balls, including 12 boundaries. Remarkably, this marked Lanning’s third consecutive fifty and her fourth in the tournament overall. Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 17 runs in 15 balls, but it was not enough to secure victory for Delhi Capitals.

Deepti Sharma’s all-round brilliance
Deepti’s impact wasn’t limited to her batting alone as she proved to be the game-changer with the ball as well. Her exceptional bowling figures of 4/19 played a crucial role in restricting Delhi Capitals, ensuring a thrilling last-over win for UP Warriorz. Grace Harris also contributed significantly, taking 2 wickets for just 8 runs. Deepti also took a hat-trick in the game and became the first Indian to do so in the WPL history. She was rightfully adjudged ‘Player of the Match’.
