Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of IPL 2024? Massive update arrives on batter’s fitness

India batter Suryakumar Yadav might miss the first two games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for the Mumbai Indians (MI). As per the reports in PTI, it is learned that the batter could be in a race against time to get fit by the first match of the league against Gujarat Titans (GT).

Suryakumar Yadav has been out of action since December 2023. The batter injured his ankle during the T20I series against South Africa. The right-hander then was ruled out of the series along with the T20I series against Afghanistan in January.

Suryakumar Yadav apart from getting treated for the ankle injury, also underwent surgery for the Sports hernia. The batter since then hasn’t played a single game of cricket and is now expected to make a comeback through the Indian Premier League for the Mumbai Indians.

Suryakumar Yadav has started his rehabilitation and is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), putting in hard yards for his comeback. The right-hander was recently seen batting in the nets and also was seen having outdoor drills with Arshdeep Singh.

With IPL 2024 around the corner, there have been a lot of speculations if Suryakumar Yadav will be fit by the time the league starts. He will be extremely vital for the franchise in the tournament and if they have to win the title, he needs to be fit.

A BCCI source revealed that the rehabilitation process of Suryakumar Yadav is on track and he will make a comeback in the league. He stated that the batter still hasn’t got the clearance to play the first two games in the league. Speaking to PTI, he said:

“Surya’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However, it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27).”

Could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself – BCCI source on Suryakumar Yadav

The BCCI source also pointed out that with 12 days still to go for the Mumbai Indians’ first game, Suryakumar Yadav could be against the race to get fit by the time the first game starts. He added:

“There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself.”

Suryakumar Yadav will be a massive factor for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Since the last few seasons, he has played a magnificent brand of cricket, which no one has been close to. He will be playing under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, who was traded to Mumbai from Gujarat and made captain, replacing Rohit Sharma.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will begin from 22nd March. Mumbai Indians will be playing their first game against Gujarat Giants on Sunday (24th March). It remains to be seen if Suryakumar Yadav would be fit for that game or not.
