Shubman Gill thrashes Harsha Bhogle left, right, and centre!! Instructs him to be mindful of Gujarat Titans!!

Gujarat Titans‘ (GT) captain Shubman Gill expressed his satisfaction with his team’s thrilling three-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 24th game of the ongoing IPL 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 10.

However, Gill said that he would have preferred to finish the game himself but lauded Rashid Khan (24*) and Rahul Tewatia (22) for helping the Gujarat Titans (GT) break the winning streak of the table-topper Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their home ground, Jaipur.

GT spinner Rashid hit a nerve-wracking last-ball boundary against Avesh Khan to help Gujarat return to winning track in the tournament. Chasing a target of 196 runs against RR, GT finished the game in the last ball of the last over despite having a great start, handing the Royals their first loss.

Gill played a crucial role in setting up the chase with a superb knock of 72 runs off 44 balls at the top of the order. Despite no support from the middle order, GT managed to pull off a thrilling win against RR on the back of valuable contributions from Tewatia (22 off 11 balls) and Rashid (24 off 11 balls).

After a strong start of 64/0 till the 9th over, GT faltered to 111/4 by the 14th over, as RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Sen made things tough for them by taking four wickets together. With 35 runs needed off the last two overs, it seemed that the match was slipped from GT’s hands.

However, RR pacer Kuldeep, who had taken three wickets earlier in the match, conceded 20 runs in the 19th over as the momentum shifted in GT’s favor. In the final over, when GT needed 15 runs to win the game, Rashid sealed the deal by hitting Avesh Khan (1/48) all around the park off the last six balls.

With this, GT earned two crucial points and jumped to the 6th spot in the IPL 2024 points table. Meanwhile, Harsha Bhogle questioned whether the GT had left too much to do at the end of the match. And now Gill’s response to Bhogle is going viral on the internet.

Harsha Bhogle said: “Well done, you got two points today. At one point, I must admit, some of us thought you’d left it too late, but well done today.” To which, Shubman Gill said: “Thank you. When GT is playing, don’t think that, huh?” And Harsha was like, “I will keep that in mind. Well done, Shubham and Gujarat Titans.”

Gill said in the post-match presentation: “We were targeting 45 in three overs and that is very much gettable, and that was the mindset. Mathematically, it is like both batters need to score 9-ball 22 runs or so and if one of the batters goes berserk, it will get over two-three balls prior. I would have loved to finish the game but very happy with the way Rashid bhai and Rahul bhai finished the game.”
