India skipper Rohit Sharma achieved a massive feat for his team in Test cricket. The senior opener batted and became only the 17th player from Team India to go past 4000 runs in the longest format of the game.
Rohit Sharma achieved the feat on Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test match against England. The penultimate game of the five-match Test series between the teams is taking place at the Jharkhand Cricket Association complex in Ranchi, where the hosts have asserted their authority.
Rohit Sharma achieved the milestone during the second innings of the match. India were set a target of 192 runs to chase and the opening batter came out with a positive intent, making sure that his team got off to a valiant start in the last half an hour of the game.
Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten at 24 runs at stumps on Day 3 and with his knock, he went past 4000 runs. The India captain, who currently has 4003 runs, would be hoping to add more to his tally and take his team to the win in the fourth Test and also seal the series with one match to go in Dharamsala.
Rohit Sharma now would be hoping to surpass Gautam Gambhir in the list of leading run-getters for India in Test cricket. The left-hander’s career with 4154 runs in 58 Test matches. With the way, the India skipper is going about its business, it won’t be a surprise if he goes past Gambhir in this series itself. The series has one more game left which will be played in Dharamsala, from 7th March.
Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-getter for India in Tests with 15921 runs to his name. India head coach Rahul Dravid is next on the list with 13265 runs. The duo is followed by Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, Cheteshwar Pujara, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Gundappa Viswanath, Kapil Dev, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, Mohinder Amarnath, Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, respectively.
Rohit Sharma completes 1000 runs against England in Test cricket; joins Virat Kohli in list
Apart from completing 4000 runs in Test cricket, Rohit Sharma also achieved a special milestone. The batter scored 1000 runs against England in the longest format of the game, joining the likes of Virat Kohli, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rahul Dravid in the elite list.
Rohit Sharma currently has 1013 runs in England and achieved the feat in his 13th game against the Three Lions. The batter would be eager to add more to his tally and help his team win. He slammed a magnificent ton against the opposition in the last game in Rajkot.
Virat Kohli is also on the list with 1991 runs in 28 Tests against England. Ahead of him are Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, who have more than 2000 runs against the Three Lions. Tendulkar is the leading run-getter with 2535 runs in 32 Tests whereas Gavaskar scored 2483 runs in 38 matches. Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara are also ahead of Rohit Sharma in the elite list.
