Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir lauded India batter Rinku Singh for his stupendous knock in the third T20I against Afghanistan. He believes that the batter can be next Yuvraj Singh for the Indian Cricket Team.
Rinku Singh hasn’t put a foot wrong ever since he made his debut for India in the T20Is. In such a short span of time, he has claimed his spot in the team, and with the kind of performances he has put in, it’s fair to say that he no doubt will be the first name in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rinku Singh’s best came during the third T20I against Afghanistan in Bengaluru. So far, many touted him as a finisher. However, something different was on the fray in the dead rubber in Bengaluru, which saw two super overs being played.
India were reeling at 22/4 when Rinku Singh stepped out to bat. The batter soaked in all the pressure and built the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma. He played a perfect second fiddle to captain Sharma, who slammed his 5th ton in the format.
However, after being watchful initially, Rinku Singh unleashed himself and took attack to the bowlers. He played magnificent strokes all over the park and made sure that India kept scoring quickly from the other end as well, especially after that start they got.
Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten 69 runs off 39 balls. He batted with a strike rate of over 176 and slammed 2 fours and 6 sixes in his innings. The batter added an unbeaten 190 runs partnership with Rohit Sharma as India posted a total of 212 runs, which at one moment seemed impossible.
After Rinku Singh’s heroics, many fans and experts were in awe of him. Mohammad Amir said that the young batter could fill in the role of Yuvraj Singh for India. Taking to his X account, he stated:
“rinku singh can be next yuvraj singh for india any thoughts 🤔🤔🤔? #india vs Afghanistan”

He reminds me of myself – Yuvraj Singh on Rinku Singh
Recently, World Cup 2011 Man of the Tournament Yuvraj Singh praised Rinku Singh for his heroics for the Indian team. He said that he batter reminds him of himself as he knows when to attack. The former all-rounder added the KKR batter has the skills to do what he used to do. Speaking to the Telegraph, he said:
“He’s probably the best left-hander in the Indian squad right now. He reminds me of myself he knows when to attack, when to rotate strike, and he’s incredibly smart under pressure.
“He can win us matches. I don’t want to put pressure on him, but I truly believe he has the skill to do what I used to be the finisher who delivers at No.5 or 6.”
Rinku Singh has played 15 T20Is for India so far and has mustered 356 runs at an average of 89. The left-hander also has an amazing strike rate of over 176 to go with two half-centuries to his name with the best of an unbeaten 69.
