Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday (21st March) posted a heartwarming message for Ruturaj Gaikwad. This came after the young batter was handed the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Young Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad on Thursday (21st March) was announced as the new captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He was given the leadership role after regular skipper MS Dhoni decided to step down as the captain on the eve of the IPL 2024.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will have a great responsibility on his shoulders as he will have to carry the legacy of MS Dhoni ahead. The keeper-batter is the joint-most successful skipper in the league as he has won 5 titles as a captain.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has a decent amount of captaincy experience as apart from being the captain of his domestic circuit, he also captained India at the Asian Games gold medal in Hangzhou last year. Under his leadership, Team India won the gold medal in the tournament.
Ruturaj Gaikwad also was vice-captain for India in the T20I series in Ireland and Australia in 2023. It will be a great opportunity for him to get groomed under the guidance of MS Dhoni, who will be playing as a keeper-batter in the upcoming edition of the IPL. All the spotlight will be on him as he enters the field. His first assignment will be the tournament opener of the IPL 2024, which will be played against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

MS Dhoni won 133 games as a captain in the IPL. This is most by any skipper in the league. The keeper-batter won his last game as a captain of the team, which was the final of the IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad. It is expected that IPL 2024 will be his last in the league. He has been an incredible servant in the league. He has played 250 IPL matches in the league and has scored more than 5000 runs at a strike rate of 135.92.
