Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill expressed his delight after his team won the thriller against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He issued a warning to all the other teams, saying that one should never write his team off until the very last ball of the match is bowled.
Gujarat Titans stunned Rajasthan Royals at their fortress in Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Shubman Gill-led side emerged victorious by the margin of 3 wickets and made sure to register their third win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Gujarat Titans snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as for most of the game they looked down. With the ball, they didn’t have a great outing as they conceded 196 runs, having removed both the openers of the opposition for just 42 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
In the chase, Shubman Gill kept his team in the hunt but didn’t get support from the top and middle order. The opening batter scored 72 runs but his wicket saw Gujarat Titans tottering at 133/5. It seemed that they would lose the game easily but Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan had other plans.
Rahul Tewatia (22) and Rashid Khan (24*) in the end oozed their class with the bat and made sure they took their team home. With 15 runs needed off the last over, they played sensationally well and snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat.
Shubman Gill said that after he got out, his team was targetting 45 runs in 3 overs and they backed themselves to do that. He expressed his disappointment for not taking his team home and credited Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan for their heroics in the end. Speaking during the post-match presentation, he explained:
“We were targetting 45 in 3 overs and it is very much gettable and that was the mindset at that time. Mathematically both batters needed to hit 22 off 9 balls and that’s how the thinking goes and if one batter goes berserk that will do. I would have loved to finish the game, but very happy with Rahul and Rashid bhai for finishing the job for us.”

Rashid Khan won the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance in the game. With the ball, he returned with the figures of 1/18 and then played an unbeaten 24-run innings with bat to take his team home.
Shubman Gill hailed Rashid Khan for his performances and stated that all teams want competitors like Rashid on their side. He elaborated:
“Winning the ball off the last ball is always a great feeling. He (Rashid Khan) is someone who you always want in your a team, he is such a competitor.”When GT play, don’t think like that, eh.”
Gujarat Titans will be next seen in action when they take on Delhi Capitals in their next game on 17th April.
