Dinesh Karthik and Michael Vaughan heap praise on Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel
Speaking to Cricbuzz Dinesh Karthik said, “We need to speak about two young boys, who came to the floor, both of them play a very- very young in their Test career, embryonic stages you can say. Jurel just playing his second Test, Gill is playing around the 20 Test mark and the way they forged that partnership, 72 they got together at no point they looked troubled they rotated the strike, and kept the pressure back on England. Lot of batters weren’t able to rotate strikes as they did but what a partnership it was.”
Former England captain Michael Vaughan was also part of the discussion along with Dinesh Karthik. Vaughan stated that Shubman Gill played a brilliant innings and added that he was under a lot of pressure ahead of the second Test. The former England captain stated that he got a hundred in the second Test then two fifty-plus scores under a huge amount of pressure. However, he added that getting his team over the line will give Gill a lot of confidence.
Michael Vaughan said, “Yeah, brilliant if you look at Shubman Gill DK, it was a lot of pressure going into that second Test he got a hundred. The week after he gets a not and in the second innings he gets a 90, and this he gets a 50 not out under a huge amount of pressure, I think the innings today, you know whether the hundreds that he has scored whether it is the white ball cricket or Test match cricket, when you see your team home and get the team over the line under a pressure situation it gives you as an individual a huge amount of confidence. Jurel is a wonderful find, I think he is going to be playing a lot of cricket for India.”
While answering a question from Michael Vaughan, Dinesh Karthik stated that this innings will give him a lot of confidence. Karthik also said that Dhruv Jurel has turned out to be a ‘jewel’ but hats off to Shubman Gill for the intent he showed.
Dinesh Karthik said, “Absolutely, Michael and I only say that, yes he got a hundred in Vizag, he got a 90 in Rajkot but this innings like you said under pressure under immense pressure when timings are created from carbon, he is someone who has been around for some time and this total pressure because they lost a wicket and they lost their captain, wickets just kept tumbling around them. The way he batted and marshaled his resources was beautiful. Abley guided by Dhruv Jurel, who seems to be an absolute jewel but Shubman Gill hats off to him, the intent that he showed at times you can get a little nervous and play shots but just the confidence with which he went with that chase was amazing to watch.”
India lead the five-match series by 3-1 and the fifth Test of the series will be played in Dharamsala.
