MS Dhoni will continue to hog all the limelight in the Indian Premier League once again when the seventeenth edition of the tournament gets underway this week. The former India skipper has played competitive cricket only in the IPL since retiring from international cricket in 2020.
While not many were expecting him to continue for long after his international retirement, MS Dhoni has continued to leave the cricketing world surprised with his sheer commitment to the game.
In the last season of the IPL, he played the entire season with a knee injury. The Chennai Super Kings skipper had to take the field with a heavily strapped knee. While he tried to face as less deliveries as possible with the bat due to the knee injury, he maintained his usual high standard while keeping the wickets.
Soon after leading CSK to a record-equaling fifth IPL title, he had to undergo surgery in Mumbai. While his participation in IPL 2024 was in doubt due to the knee issue, the 42-year-old has recovered in time for the tournament. Earlier this month, he joined CSK’s preparatory camp in Chennai to prepare for IPL 2024.

After fully recovering from the knee injury, MS Dhoni will be eyeing a productive season with the bat. While only time will tell how he fares with the bat in the upcoming season, one can say that he is looking in good touch based on his performance in the training camp. A video of his batting in the training session has gone viral on social media. In the video, he could be seen playing his trademark helicopter shot.

In IPL 2023, MS Dhoni faced only 57 deliveries but scored an impressive 104 runs at a strike rate of more than 180. He struck three fours and ten sixes in the last edition of the campaign. The veteran wicketkeeper can create history in IPL 2024 by becoming the first-ever captain to win the tournament six times.
The seventeenth edition of IPL is scheduled to begin on March 22 in Chennai. CSK will lock horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener.
