Virat Kohli has started his campaign in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on a brilliant note. The right-handed batsman could not deliver with the bat in the first game but quickly bounced back.
In the first game against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings, the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain was out for 21 off 20 balls as his team lost the contest by six wickets. However, he bounced back in the very next game by playing a match-winning knock against Punjab Kings.
The former India skipper scored 77 off 49 balls to lead RCB’s charge with the bat after other big names such as Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell failed to get going. He followed it up with another fine knock in the third game against Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring an unbeaten 83 off 59 balls although RCB ended up losing the game by seven wickets.
Virat Kohli creates history:
After the promising start to the season, Virat Kohli will be looking to make the most of the momentum. While only time will tell how things unfold in the coming days for the star batsman, he has presently added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap.
Virat Kohli, on Tuesday (April 2), became the very first Indian cricketer to play 100 T20 matches at a single venue. He achieved the feat during the match between RCB and Lucknow Super Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The iconic stadium has been his IPL home since 2008, the inaugural season of the competition. He is the only cricketer in the history of the IPL who has been playing for the same franchise since 2008. While MS Dhoni has been playing for Chennai Super Kings since the first IPL season, he had to play two seasons for Rising Pune Supergiant when the Chennai-based outfit was suspended.
