NEW DELHI: The Indian fans on social media raised questions on England’s sportsman spirit after wicketkeeper Ben Foakes pretended to have taken a clean catch to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 2 of the 4th Test in Ranchi.
The incident took place in the second session when Jaiswal edged the final delivery of Ollie Robinson‘s 20th over to Foakes behind the wickets. And England keeper Foakes started celebrating thinking it was a clean catch.
However, the decision was referred to the third umpire for a review to check the legitimacy of the catch but replays showed that the ball bounced before landing in Foakes’ gloves.
But the decision came as a huge surprise for the England team, with skipper Ben Stokes in particular, who was visibly astonished that triggered a surge of reactions on various social media platforms.
Later on, Jaiswal became the only fifth Indian batter to score 600-plus runs in a Test series.
The left-handed Jaiswal, who made his India debut last year during the tour of the West Indies, got the landmark in his seventh innings of the ongoing five-match Test series.
The 22-year-old Jaiswal joined Indian batting legends Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid as well as Dilip Sardesai to amass more than 600 runs in a Test series.
