Bangladesh Cricket Team have suffered a major blow ahead of the third ODI against Sri Lanka. Fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been ruled out of the last game, slated to take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday (18th March).
Tanzim Hasan Sakib injured himself during the practice session on Sunday (17th March), a day ahead of the third game. The fast bowler faced discomfort in his right hamstring. The pacer looked in pain and was deemed unfit to take part in the series decider against Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh National Cricket Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed the development, saying that after Tanzim Hasan Sakib injured himself, he didn’t show any signs of improvement. Speaking ahead of the third match against Sri Lanka in Chattogram, he explained:
“Tanzim is experiencing pain and discomfort in his right hamstring. He did not feel any better at training today and is not fit to play tomorrow.”
Tazim Hasan Sakib first got injured during the first ODI against Sri Lanka. He strained his hamstring and then walked off the field after bowling 9 overs. However, he returned later and then played the second game as well without any discomfort.
With the series online, the absence of Tanzim Hasan Sakib would be a massive blow for the Bangladesh team, especially with the way he has been bowling in the series. He picked three wickets in the first game and then followed it up with one scalp in the second match of the series.
The absence of Tanzim Hasan Sakib will be a big plus for Sri Lanka as their batters struggled to get going against him. The Island nation, however, too will be without their premier pacer for the last game of the series. Dilshan Madushanka has been ruled out of the game.
The fast bowler has pulled up his hamstring. He will miss the rest of the tour and also is doubtful for the initial stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. His absence will be a blow for both Sri Lanka as well as the Mumbai Indians.
Bangladesh call Hasan Mahmud as the replacement of Tanzim Hasan Sakib
As Tanzim Hasan Sakib was ruled out of the third ODI against Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh Cricket Team didn’t take long to announce the replacement. The hosts called up Hasan Mahmud into the team for the final game. However, it is unlikely that he would get the opportunity.
Bangladesh already have Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Mustafizur Rahman in the squad. While Taskin and Shoriful are likely to retain their place in the team, Rahman is likely to get a nod ahead of Hasan Mahmud in the series-decider third ODI against Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh kickstarted the series on high with a dominating win in the first game. Before Sri Lanka made a comeback in the second game. The hosts would be eager to win the final of the series. The visitors had already sealed the T20I series by a 2-1 margin.
