Nathan Lyon denies revealing Kane Williamson’s weakness and his plan for the batter

Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon opted against revealing the flaw that he found in the batting of Kane Williamson against him. He said that he noticed something and tried to exploit that but he won’t reveal it because there’s still one match to go.

Nathan Lyon is having a decent game in the ongoing Test between New Zealand and Australia. He is making sure that he keeps his team in the game and puts pressure on the opposition. The veteran spinner has looked threatening in the game as he has bowled impeccable lines and lengths.

In the chase of 369 runs, he made sure that he landed a major blow to New Zealand. The off-spinner removed Kane Williamson and jolted the Kiwis. The off-spinner bowled sensationally well and the batter had no answers to the ball by the veteran.

Nathan Lyon came round the wicket and dropped the ball on length on middle and leg. Kane Williamson tried to tuck it away off the back foot but the ball turned in and went off the inside edge to leg slip. Steve Smith took a sharp catch to send the batter packing.

Kane Williamson couldn’t make a big impact with the bat. He scored just 9 runs off 19 balls. The batter had a torrid game with the bat as in the first innings he bagged a two-ball duck. He got run out and after his wicket team struggled to get going.

Nathan Lyon while talking about Kane Williamson’s wicket said that he was delighted after his plan came off straight away. He revealed that he had noticed something in the batter’s batting against him and he explained that. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“That was the plan and it’s nice when plans come off well pretty straight away. But yeah, I have noticed something in Kane’s batting against my bowling. So, yeah I tried to exploit that.

“There’s one Test to come mate,” Lyon said when asked what flaw he noticed in the batting of Kane Williamson.

Great day of Test cricket. I am a big fan when the ball spins obviously – Nathan Lyon

Nathan Lyon further talked about the situation of the game, saying that he enjoys it when the ball spins. He although surprised to see spin in New Zealand but credited the opposition for the way they played. Speaking after the game, he explained:

“Great day of Test cricket. I am a big fan when the ball spins obviously. I thought Glenn bowled pretty well to take five wickets, hats off to him. Pretty good day. (Surprised to see spin in New Zealand?) No, not after watching that Test against South Africa. When they left Mitch Santner out, I was pretty surprised. I am not sure where that Test was but I was at home licking my lips. (The wind) Can be challenging at the start but as soon as you find your rhythm, I actually enjoyed it.

“You can end up getting nice shape. You have to give respect and credit where credit’s due, I thought Rachin and Daryl played superb innings there. Rachin seems like a really good player, first time I have bowled to him. Watched a lot of him during the World Cup and he’s going to be a superstar. He played very well there. If we can come out here and just do our job and put the pressure on, hopefully, we will crack them.”

At stumps on Day 3, New Zealand were 111/3 with Rachin Ravindra (56*) and Daryl Mitchell (12*) batting. They still are 258 runs away from victory.
