The fifth Test match of the five-match series between India and England commenced on Thursday (7th March). The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala is the host to the final game of the series, which has already been won by the hosts.
Day 1 of the fifth Test between India and England belonged to the Rohit Sharma-led as they dominated the opposition with both bat as well as the ball. The hosts would now be hoping to have a similar kind of Day tomorrow and completely take the game away from England.
IND vs ENG 5th Test Day 1 – England innings: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin help India bundle out visitors for 218 runs
England won the toss and opted to bat first on a surface, which looked good for batting. They had a great start to their innings as openers Zak Crawley (79) and Ben Duckett (27) took the team off the valiant start. They added 64 runs together for the opening stand and provided the team with a valiant start.
After Ben Duckett got out, Ollie Pope (11) tried to settle in but couldn’t and lost his wickets at the stroke of lunch. Crawley went on to hit the half-century but couldn’t get a century. Joe Root (26) and Jonny Bairstow (29) added 38 runs together but after their partnership things changed drastically.
India spinner Kuldeep Yadav wreaked havoc across the England batting lineup and made a mockery of the opposition. He returned with a fifer in quick of time and paved the way for the English collapse at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
Ben Foakes (24) tried to keep England in the hunt and looked solid at the crease. He defended the ball pretty well but Ravichandran Ashwin made sure that he made his 100th Test match special.
He also picked four wickets and made sure that he wrapped up the England tailenders as quickly as possible. Ravindra Jadeja also claimed one wicket as India bundled out England for just 218 runs.
IND vs ENG 5th Test Day 1 – India innings: Rohit Sharma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal hit blistering half-centuries
After India bundled out England for 218 runs, skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal made sure that they take hosts off the flying start in the reply. The duo batted with an aggressive mindset and made sure that they took full advantage of the good batting conditions.
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 104 runs together before the left-hander got out after scoring 57 runs off 58 balls. Captain, on the other hand, made sure that his side ended the Day 1 on high. He slammed a blistering half-century and put England under a lot of pressure.
Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten at 52 runs off 83 balls. Whereas Shubman Gill, who walked in at No.3, looked solid at the crease. He remained unbeaten at 26 runs off 39 balls as India ended Day 1 on 135/1. At stumps, the hosts are 83 runs away from England’s total.
