In a significant setback for Rajasthan Royals (RR), pacer Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This unfortunate development comes as a result of a tear in his left proximal quadriceps tendon, which required him to undergo a surgery recently.
Vacuum in Rajasthan Royals’ bowling lineup
Prasidh’s absence generates an evident lack in the Royals’ bowling department, requiring immediate and tactical adaptations by the team management as they prepare for the IPL 2024 campaign. His expertise and skill set make him a vital resource, and his exclusion compels the Royals to explore substitute possibilities to uphold a harmonized squad.
Prasidh Krishna’s unfortunate string of absences
Last year, a lumbar stress fracture forced Prasidh to be sidelined, and now, a tear in his left proximal quadriceps tendon has dealt another blow to his participation. This setback comes after the 28-year-old successfully recovered from his previous major injury and even made his Test debut during the South Africa tour last year. Unfortunately, he was then sidelined once again during the early stages of the Ranji Trophy. In order to regain fitness and make a comeback to competitive cricket, Prasidh will undergo a comprehensive rehabilitation program with the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

With Prasidh undergoing surgery and confronting a phase of recuperation, the Royals encounter inquiries about organizing their bowling roster, discovering an appropriate substitute, and adjusting their tactics for the impending IPL venture.
Top 3 contenders to replace Prasidh Krishna in Rajasthan Royals’ squad for IPL 2024:
Kuldip Yadav
One of the leading candidates to replace Prasidh is Kuldip Yadav. The left-arm fast bowler has been making waves in domestic cricket with his raw pace and ability to generate bounce.
Kuldip’s consistent performances have caught the attention of many. With his ability to swing the ball and deliver accurate yorkers, he could prove to be a valuable asset in the Royals’ bowling attack.
Kuldip did play for Rajasthan in the 2023 season. He played two games for the 2008 champions and bagged a couple of wickets. Kuldip went unsold in the 2024 auction and RR can try him for the upcoming edition.
Aditya Thakare
Another contender vying for the spot is the talented right-arm medium-fast bowler, Aditya Thakare. Known for his deceptive variations and ability to extract movement off the pitch, Aditya has showcased his skills in the domestic arena.
Representing Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy 2024, the young prodigy has impressed one and all with his consistent bowling display. Aditya could bring a fresh dynamic to the Royals’ bowling unit as his ability to bowl excellent line and length at a brisk pace makes him an enticing option for the franchise. He has taken 35 wickets in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy in 10 games.
Gaurav Yadav
The third potential candidate in contention is Gaurav Yadav, a promising right-arm medium-fast bowler. With impressive performances in domestic cricket, Gaurav has displayed his ability to generate good pace and extract bounce from the surface.
His accuracy and consistent line and length have earned him recognition as a reliable wicket-taker and has proven his mettle in the Ranji Trophy 2024 while playing for Puducherry. He is the second highest wicket-taker in this season having scalped 41 wickets in just 7 matches.
Notably, Gaurav has moved from Madhya Pradesh after spending more than a decade since debuting for them in 2012-13. He was also part of the Madhya Pradesh side that won the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy. If given the opportunity, Gaurav could prove to be a valuable asset for the Royals, providing them with an extra spark in their bowling attack.
