India captain Rohit Sharma’s comeback to the T20I team was marred by the horrible mixup he had had with Shubman Gill. The first T20I between Team India and Afghanistan took place at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
India opted to field first and had a great outing with the ball. They restricted the opposition to a total of just 158 runs. All the eyes were on Rohit Sharma as to how he will go about in his comeback match. Many expected him to set the stage on fire but it wasn’t meant to be.
Rohit Sharma got out on the second ball of the chase as he got run out. It’s fair to say that it was his partner Shubman Gill who was at fault and got his captain out. The skipper ran down the track to play the straight shot off Fazalhaq Farooqi.
As soon as Rohit Sharma played the shot, he ran for a single. But Shubman Gill didn’t look at the captain and was watching the ball, which Ibrahim Zadran stopped by putting in a great dive.
Rohit Sharma kept running and yelled loudly for the run but the young batter didn’t respond. Both the batters ended up at the same end and it ultimately saw Rohit getting out. The skipper wasn’t happy with the young batter and was seen saying some harsh words to him.
Rohit Sharma kept murmuring something and even lost his cool, which was something that fans aren’t familiar with. He left the field frustrated and even after that, in the dressing room, he looked in a vigorous mood.
Rohit Sharma was seen giving an angry reaction while sitting in the dugout. This came after Shubman Gill hit a boundary. The video of the incident went viral on the internet. Here’s the clip:

IND vs AFG: When it happens you feel frustrated – Rohit Sharma on his run-out
After the game, Rohit Sharma opened up about his mixup with Shubman Gill that ran him out. He admitted that he was frustrated as he wanted to be there in the middle, scoring runs for the team.
Rohit Sharma further stated that winning the game was important and he also applauded Shubman Gill for the way he played. The skipper also spoke about the positives from the game and added that they want to challenge themselves. Speaking after the game, he stated:
“When it happens you feel frustrated, you want to be out there and score runs for the team. Everything will not go your way. We won the game, that’s more important. I wanted Gill to carry on but unfortunately got out after playing a very good little innings. Lot of positives. Shivam Dube, the way Jitesh batted, Tilak as well and then Rinku is in good form as well. We want to keep trying different things.
“We want to challenge ourselves in the areas we are slightly uncomfortable with and the bowlers are not used to that. We want to try and do that. Keeping all of those things in mind, we’ll try and do whatever is possible but not at the cost of the game. We want to make sure that we come out on top and play the game well. All in all, today was a good day for us.”
India took an early lead in the series with 6-wicket in Mohali. Rohit Sharma will be next seen in action when India will take on Afghanistan in the second game. The match will take place in Indore on 14th January.
