NEW DELHI: Pravin Amre, the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals (DC), has hailed Rishabh Pant‘s remarkable return to form during the team’s pre-season camp, asserting that Pant’s batting prowess remains “vintage” despite a 14-month absence from the game due to injury. Pant’s exceptional performance in the camp comes as a promising sign ahead of his comeback in the upcoming IPL season, following a harrowing car accident in December 2022.
“As coaching unit and personally, it was really pleasing to see him bat.It didn’t feel like he was batting after a long time. The bat swing was vintage,” Amre expressed, as quoted by DC in a media release. He credited Pant’s dedication and hard work throughout the year, highlighting his mental resilience and hunger for success.

Pant’s return to the DC squad comes after the team’s disappointing performance last season under the leadership of David Warner, where they finished ninth in the standings, failing to secure a spot in the playoffs.
In anticipation of their first two home matches in Vizag, DC’s coaching staff, led by Amre, is optimistic about the venue’s potential to offer a high-scoring spectacle. With the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi currently hosting the Women’s Premier League, Vizag emerges as an enticing venue for DC’s initial fixtures.
“Vizag has always been a high-scoring ground, and that’s what we wanted. It has got that true bounce, and we are just looking forward to seeing what it has to offer,” Amre stated.
The team’s focus remains on starting the tournament strongly, with an emphasis on providing the best possible conditions for their players to excel. Amre highlighted the importance of practice matches and collective sessions to fine-tune the team’s preparations for the IPL.
DC are set to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings in Mohali on March 23, with Pant’s return adding a layer of anticipation and excitement among the cricket enthusiasts.
