During the Pakistan Super League 2024 match between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators, Sultans’ players David Willey and Usman Khan combined to drop a simple catch due to which Saud Shakeel got a reprieve.
On the fifth ball of the fourth over, Shakeel tried to flick a stump line ball from Willey, which took the leading edge of his bat and went straight up in the air. It would have been an easy catch for bowler Willey.
However, David Willey wasn’t able to hold on to the ball and it came out of his hand. Usman Khan who was just standing beside Willey tried to catch the ball but he couldn’t. It was an easy catch though, but at last, Saud Shakeel was saved due to Willey.

Batting first Multan Sultans were able to reach a total of 180/4 courtesy of a 72-run knock by batsman Reeza Hendricks. Captain Mohammad Rizwan also contributed with the bat and played an innings of 51 runs. Tayyab Tahir played an unbeaten knock of 35 runs from 22 balls and gave the finish to the team.
Reeza Hendricks smashed seven fours and four sixes during his stay at the crease whereas, Mohammad Rizwan also dealt in sixes. Rizwan hit 2 fours and 4 sixes during his time at the crease whereas, Tayyab Tahir batted with a strike rate of close to 160 runs and smashed four fours and 1 six.
Mohammad Amir picked up 2 wickets for the Quetta Gladiators whereas, Akeal Hossein and Abrar Ahmed ended up with 1 wicket each.
Chasing down the target, Quetta Gladiators didn’t start off well and lost opener Jason Roy for just 12 runs. After being given the lifeline, Saud Shakeel added 26 runs along with Khawaja Nafay but got dismissed for 24 runs by David Willey. Nafay played a knock of 36 runs from 31 balls and was removed by Mohammad Ali. Sherfane Rutherford was caught and bowled against Willey for 21 runs. Gladiators lost six wickets for just 134 runs and still need 46 runs to win with less than 4 overs left in the match.
Multan Sultans are currently placed in the top spot of the Pakistan Super League 2024 points table with 3 wins from 4 games and 1 loss. Quetta Gladiators are currently undefeated in the whole tournament and are placed in the second spot with 3 wins from 3 games and six points. However, the Sultans look like favorites to win the match against the Gladiators and shall break their winning streak.
Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators are the top two teams in the Pakistan Super League 2024 points table, whereas defending champions Lahore Qalandars are placed at the bottom of the table with four losses from four games. Qalandars have been clueless with their bowling in the tournament and are missing the presence of Rashid Khan. The same is the case with Peshawar Zalmi who have been able to win just 1 match out of the 3 games. Zalmi has the likes of Babar Azam, however, the team has not been able to make the best out of it and are going through a rough patch.
