NEW DELHI: England pace bowler Ollie Robinson has expressed his belief that England’s 1-4 defeat in the Test series against India was “undeserved” despite playing some “really good cricket”. Robinson, speaking to Sky Sports, reflected on the series outcome, suggesting that with a few tweaks, the result could have been different.
“We were really close to reversing that result.Obviously the catch I dropped in the fourth Test would have helped us but, no, we feel like 4-1 was undeserved, really,” Robinson stated, highlighting the team’s disappointment with the final scoreline. “We played some really good cricket and maybe on another tour it could have been 3-2 to us, who knows?”
In the Test series against India, England, led by Ben Stokes, managed to secure victory in the opening game but faced defeat in the remaining four Tests by significant margins. Robinson, who featured in the fourth Test in Ranchi, admitted his frustration, particularly regarding a crucial dropped catch.
“Very frustrating to me. I put in a lot of hard work before and during that tour. I waited to the fourth Test to get a game,” he added, reflecting on his own performance during the series.
Regarding England’s playing style, often referred to as ‘Bazball‘ after head coach Brendon ‘Baz’ McCullum, Robinson defended the approach, describing it as entertaining and promising for the future of English cricket.
“The brand of cricket that we’re playing is really good to watch for fans and good to play in. I think we’re really close to being the best in the world, to be honest,” Robinson said optimistically. “A few one percenters here and there and we can really dominate the world of cricket.”
